A six-person consulting firm was assembling every invoice by hand in Word — copying hours from spreadsheets, formatting PDFs, chasing what had been sent and paid. I built Wathiq Ledger, an internal dashboard that generates, sends, and tracks invoices automatically. Four weeks from first call to full adoption.

Invoicing consumed most of a partner's Friday, every week: cross-referencing timesheets, hand-editing a Word template, exporting PDFs, and emailing them one by one. Mistakes crept in — wrong rates, missed billable hours — and nobody could answer "which invoices are unpaid?" without digging through sent mail. Billing sometimes slipped weeks simply because it was miserable to do.

The dashboard holds clients, projects, and rates in one place. Consultants log hours in a simple weekly view; at month-end, one click generates branded PDF invoices per client, correct rates applied automatically. Invoices are emailed through the system with open tracking, and a status board shows exactly what's draft, sent, viewed, and paid — with overdue invoices surfaced automatically.

Instead of guessing at requirements, I rebuilt their most recent real invoice cycle inside the prototype and had the partner verify every number against what they'd actually sent. That surfaced subtleties — retainer clients billed differently than hourly ones — early enough to design for them properly. The team adopted it mid-month without losing a single billing cycle.
